PASTOR’S MESSAGE FOR EASTER 2024 / MENSAJE DEL PASTOR PARA PASCUA 2024

Do we still need to hear about the Resurrection of Jesus? What does it change in our lives?—Each Easter we should ask ourselves these questions, for on them we will build our faith in Jesus Christ. In the First Letter to the Corinthians Saint Paul wrote, " If there is no resurrection of the dead, then neither has Christ been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then empty [too] is our preaching; empty, too, your faith ” (1 Cor 15:13-14). What does Paul mean by saying this? Basically, Saint Paul reiterates the truth that God is the God of the living not of the dead. In the Resurrection of Jesus, we find the fulfillment of the promises of life without end. In other words, the Resurrection of Jesus is a window to another world. In the Risen Lord we have a glimpse of the future glory and the transformation of the fallen human nature by grace.

When you carefully study the gospels, you will realize that all Jesus’ preaching was leading to that moment—the glory of the Resurrection. All the miracles were all pointing to the greatest miracle of life in God, and that is exactly to the redemption of humanity in its entirety, both body and soul. The miracles of healing, casting out demons, rising the dead, and even of feeding human body (multiplication of bread and fish, and changing water into wine) serve only one purpose, namely that people might believe in God through Jesus and in this way experience God’s grace in their lives, which is life in the true meaning of this word. Here we should call to mind the words of Jesus: “ For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life” (John 3:16); and also “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die ” (John 11:25-26).

By extension, all the actions and even the existence of the Church are destined for the same purpose, to help us to believe in the Triune God and to sustain our life. This occurs particularly by means of the seven sacraments, through which a life of grace is poured into our very beings. If we truly have faith and cooperate with grace by ongoing repentance, the sacraments transform us into the life of the blessed, “ so that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for Him who for their sake died and was raised ” (2 Cor 5:15).

So, to summarize this short reflection, Easter is about LIFE that comes from God and is revealed in Jesus Christ in His Resurrection on Easter morning. It is the life that will be different, more fulfilling, and more beautiful as only God can make it. It is a life without illness, decay, and certainly without fear of death, for the victory belongs to Christ and those who belong to Him.

¿Seguimos necesitando oír hablar de la Resurrección de Jessús? ¿Qué cambia eso en nuestras vidas?—Cada Pascua deberíamos hacernos estas preguntas, pues sobre ellas edificaremos nuestra fe en Jesucristo. En la Primera Carta a los Corintios, San Pablo escribió: " Si no hay resurrección de los muertos, tampoco Cristo ha resucitado. Y si Cristo no resucitó, vicia es nuestra predicación y vacía vuestra fe " (1 Co 15, 13-14). ¿Qué quiere decir San Pablo con estas palabras? Básicamente, San Pablo reitera la verdad de que Dios es el Dios de los vivos, no de los muertos. En la Resurrección de Jesús encontramos el cumplimiento de las promesas de vida sin fin. En otras palabras, la Resurrección de Jesús es una ventana a otro mundo. En el Señor resucitado vislumbramos la gloria futura y la transformación de la naturaleza humana por la gracia.

Cuando estudiamos detenidamente los evangelios, nos damos cuenta de que toda la predicación de Jesús apuntaba a ese momento: la gloria de la Resurrección. Todos los milagros apuntaban al mayor milagro de la vida en Dios, y es exactamente a la redención de la humanidad en su totalidad, tanto en cuerpo como en alma. Los milagros de curación, de expulsión de demonios, de resurrección de los muertos, e incluso de alimentación del cuerpo humano (multiplicación de los panes y los peces, y transformación del agua en vino) sirven sólo a un propósito, a saber, que las personas puedan creer en Dios a través de Jesús y de esta manera experimenten la gracia de Dios en sus vidas, que es la vida en el verdadero sentido de esta palabra. Aquí debemos recordar las palabras de Jesús que se cumplen en resurrección: " Porque tanto amó Dios al mundo que dio a su Hijo único, para que todo el que crea en Él no perezca, sino que tenga vida eterna " (Jn 3,16); y también " Yo soy la resurrección y la vida; todo el que crea en mí, aunque muera, vivirá, y todo el que vive y cree en mí no morirá jamás " (Jn 11,25-26).

Por extensión, todas las acciones e incluso la existencia de la Iglesia están destinadas al mismo fin, ayudarnos a creer en el Dios Trino y sostener nuestra vida verdadera. Esto ocurre particularmente por medio de los siete sacramentos, a través de los cuales la vida de la gracia se derrama en nuestros seres. Si realmente tenemos fe y cooperamos con la gracia mediante el arrepentimiento continuo, los sacramentos nos transforman en la vida de los bienaventurados, " para que los que viven ya no vivan para sí mismos, sino para Aquel que por ellos murió y resucitó " (2 Co 5,15).

Así que, para resumir esta breve reflexión, la Pascua trata de la VIDA que viene de Dios y se revela en Jesucristo en Su Resurrección en la mañana de Pascua. Es la vida que será diferente, más plena y más hermosa que sólo Dios puede hacerla. Es una vida sin enfermedad, decadencia, y ciertamente sin miedo a la muerte, porque la victoria pertenece a Cristo y a aquellos que pertenecen a El.
